Major Australian Exchange Expands to Singapore for Crypto-Friendly Regs

Major Australian Exchange Expands to Singapore for Crypto-Friendly Regs

Independent Reserve, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in Australia, is expanding to Singapore after an "overwhelmingly positive" response from the regulator.
Adrian Przelozny, CEO and founder of the Sydney-based exchange, announced Friday it had expanded its trading services to users in Singapore, saying in a statement that his team "felt the time was right to make this move."
Przelozny referenced "a number of positive moves by Singaporean regulators" as part of his reasoning.
Independent Reserve offers a host of retail and institutional trading features, including a spot marketplace and over-the-counter (OTC) service. The exchange introduced insurance coverage against theft or loss of digital assets held in a client's account in February 2019.
Established in 2013, Independent Reserve claims it has more than 120,000 customers and 8,000 self-managed super funds (SMSFs), a private superannuation fund operated by its members and regulated by Australian law.
Singapore adopted an open-arms approach to cryptocurrency regulation when the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the country's de facto central bank and financial regulator, created a legal framework – the 2019 Payment Services Act – that effectively brought all cryptocurrency payments providers under its jurisdiction.
The Payments Services Act was one of the main factors that influenced the Independent Reserve's decision to move to Singapore, according to Przelozny.
"Having worked closely with Australian regulators, and as the only Australian exchange to have insurance on crypto assets, the response we’ve received so far from the Singapore market has been overwhelmingly positive," Przelozny said.
A number of other exchanges, attracted to Singapore's regulatory regime, have also expressed an interest in moving to the country. Binance announced plans to set up a new fiat-to-crypto exchange in the country last year. A group of ex-Morgan Stanley bankers launched a crypto derivatives exchange in December after MAS published a proposal to regulate these types of financial products.
New Singapore users will now have access to an institutional trading platform for cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, ether, litecoin and XRP. Singaporean dollar trading pairs will be integrated into its platform and will operate as a wholly separate entity from the Australian-based platform, Independent Reserve confirmed.

BaFin Launches Market Survey Into Crypto Derivatives Germany’s financial regulator BaFin has launched a survey that contains 19 questions in five subject blocks and is aimed at all market participants, including investors, consumer protection associations, providers, and issuers, as well as interest groups. With the survey, BaFin intends to build “a detailed picture of the market of derivatives featuring cryptocurrencies as an underlying asset and its potential risks.” According to the Financial Services Supervision Act, the authority is “committed to the protection of collective consumer interests” and, against this background, observes and analyzes “the market situation with regard to possible consumer protection issues.”
PBoC Official: It’s Not Appropriate To Launch Global Stablecoin Currently MU Changchun, head of the Digital Currency Research Institute at the People’s Bank of China (PBoC), claimed at the 10th Caixin Summit held on Nov 10 that it is not appropriate to introduce a global stablecoin until legal, regulatory and risk-control issues are resolved. “The global stablecoin ecosystem as a whole can be subject to systemically important supervision. It is not appropriate to introduce a global stablecoin currently until legal, regulatory, risk-control and other issues are resolved,” he said, adding that “the only effective response for China is to maintain and enhance the status of Chinese yuan in the basket of global reserve currencies, and strive to make it be a strong currency, in order to withstand the challenge of the global stablecoin.
IRS Discovers New Ways To Catch Cryptocurrency Tax Evaders The United States’ Internal Revenue Service (IRS) says that a recent meeting with other global tax authorities has given it much deeper insight into how to track those using cryptocurrency to avoid paying taxes. The meeting comes as part of a renewed effort from the IRS to clamp down on tax avoidance facilitated by digital currency. Collectively known as the Joint Chiefs of Global Tax Enforcement, representatives of tax authorities from the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands shared their own experiences dealing with the issue of cryptocurrency tax avoidance at the recent forum. The IRS now believes it is more equipped than previously to go after those attempting to hide from the taxman under the guise of cryptocurrency.

In the past few days, bitcoin consolidated in a range above the $9,000 support against the US Dollar. However, the bulls failed to protect losses, resulting in a downside break below the key $9,000 support area.
Additionally, there was a break below the 50% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $7,317 low to $10,578 high. More importantly, there was a break below a major contracting triangle with support near $9,180 on the 4-hours chart of the BTC/USD pair.
It opened the doors for more losses below the $8,920 support and the 100 simple moving average (4-hours). The decline was strong and bitcoin even settled below the $8,800 level.
At the moment, the price is consolidating below the $9,000 and $8,900 levels. An immediate support is near the $8,600 and $8,560 levels. Moreover, the 61.8% Fib retracement level

Decred Journal – August 2018

Note: you can read this on GitHub (link), Medium (link) or old Reddit (link) to see all the links.

Development

dcrd: Version 1.3.0 RC1 (Release Candidate 1) is out! The main features of this release are significant performance improvements, including some that benefit SPV clients. Full release notes and downloads are on GitHub.
The default minimum transaction fee rate was reduced from 0.001 to 0.0001 DCkB. Do not try to send such small fee transactions just yet, until the majority of the network upgrades.
Release process was changed to use release branches and bump version on the master branch at the beginning of a release cycle. Discussed in this chat.
The codebase is ready for the new Go 1.11 version. Migration to vgo module system is complete and the 1.4.0 release will be built using modules. The list of versioned modules and a hierarchy diagram are available here.
The testnet was reset and bumped to version 3.
Comments are welcome for the proposal to implement smart fee estimation, which is important for Lightning Network.
@matheusd recorded a code review video for new Decred developers that explains how tickets are selected for voting.
dcrwallet: Version 1.3.0 RC1 features new SPV sync mode, new ticket buyer, new APIs for Decrediton and a host of bug fixes. On the dev side, dcrwallet also migrated to the new module system.
Decrediton: Version 1.3.0 RC1 adds the new SPV sync mode that syncs roughly 5x faster. The feature is off by default while it receives more testing from experienced users. Other notable changes include a design polish and experimental Politeia integration.
Politeia: Proposal editing is being developed and has a short demo. This will allow proposal owners to edit their proposal in response to community feedback before voting begins. The challenges associated with this feature relate to updating censorship tokens and maintaining a clear history of which version comments were made on. @fernandoabolafio produced this architecture diagram which may be of interest to developers.
@degeri joined to perform security testing of Politeia and found several issues.
dcrdata: mainnet explorer upgraded to v2.1 with several new features. For users: credit/debit tx filter on address page, showing miner fees on coinbase transaction page, estimate yearly ticket rewards on main page, cool new hamburger menu and keyboard navigation. For developers: new chain parameters page, experimental Insight API support, endpoints for coin supply and block rewards, testnet3 support. Lots of minor API changes and frontend tweaks, many bug fixes and robustness improvements.
The upcoming v3.0 entered beta and is deployed on beta.dcrdata.org. Check out the new charts page. Feedback and bug reports are appreciated. Finally, the development version v3.1.0-pre is on alpha.dcrdata.org.
Android: updated to be compatible with the latest SPV code and is syncing, several performance issues are worked on. Details were posted in chat. Alpha testing has started, to participate please join #dev and ask for the APK.
iOS: backend is mostly complete, as well as the front end. Support for devices with smaller screens was improved. What works now: creating and recovering wallets, listing of transactions, receiving DCR, displaying and scanning QR codes, browsing account information, SPV connection to peers, downloading headers. Some bugs need fixing before making testable builds.
Ticket splitting: v0.6.0 beta released with improved fee calculation and multiple bug fixes.
docs: introduced new Governance section that grouped some old articles as well as the new Politeia page.
@Richard-Red created a concept repository sandbox with policy documents, to illustrate the kind of policies that could be approved and amended by Politeia proposals.

DCR started the month at USD 56 / BTC 0.0073 and had a two week decline. On Aug 14 the whole market took a huge drop and briefly went below USD 200 billion. Bitcoin went below USD 6,000 and top 100 cryptos lost 5-30%. The lowest point coincided with Bitcoin dominance peak at 54.5%. On that day Decred dived -17% and reached the bottom of USD 32 / BTC 0.00537. Since then it went sideways in the USD 35-45 / BTC 0.0054-0.0064 range. Around Aug 24, Huobi showed DCR trading volume above USD 5M and this coincided with a minor recovery.

What is TAGZ?

TAGZ is Australia’s first fully licensed and regulated Dual Gateway Exchange based in Australia and registered with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC). Our focus is to protect our users by actively monitoring trading activity on our platform and saying goodbye to flash crashes, pump & dumps, spoofing, fake volume aswell as securing against possible data security breaches. Our platform offers access to Traditional Crypto and Derivative Futures with the ability to trade both at the same time on one platform.
About TAGZ It is mostly well known and common knowledge that within the cryptosphere a vast majority of online exchanges offering crypto trading services are purely unregulated. This presents a huge cause for concern as unregulated exchanges are high-risk to both the average investor, day and swing traders and are a fantastic target for hackers.
In addition to the above, cryptocurrency is a very fragile and volatile market and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin have begun to evolve into mainstream adoption providing for Futures Markets to arise with Derivative Trading aswell as Traditional Crypto Markets.
This is where TAGZ aims to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ in an effort to solve this problem by creating an environment where Regulation, Security and Liquidity is paramount and both markets on one platform is also achieved.
We call this a Dual Gateway Exchange (DGE) which allows for both traditional trading of cryptocurrencies while also offering futures trading in form of derivatives, all whilst being 100% regulated and eliminating any risk to users

Nauticus — An independent cryptocurrency ICO review from thecoinradar.com

Nauticus — An independent cryptocurrency ICO review from thecoinradar.com
An independent cryptocurrency ICO review from thecoinradar.com Overview
In a climate where blockchain technology is constantly evolving and the digital economy takes the world by storm, a new very ambitious project emerges from Melbourne, Australia. Nauticus strives to establish itself as one of the market leaders by enhancing the cryptocurrency exchange eco-system and simplifying the global crypto / fiat payment process.
Nauticus is a project with 6 clear stages to implement over the next 5 years. Their clearly defined milestones in their roadmap demonstrate a clear goal to become a leading enterprise within the crypto space over the coming years. At its heart the Nauticus vision is to create ‘Better banking and eCommerce using blockchain technology.’ We ask the question: will they be able achieve their goals and most importantly, is the Nauticus ICO a worthy investment?
Nauticus aims, goals, vision & roadmap
In their first year Nauticus aims to provide a high speed, secure currency exchange with the goal of becoming a one stop shop for the consumer to trade a vast array of fiat and cryptocurrency options. A distinctive feature of the exchange is to enable users from all over the globe to pair their local currency against 100+ of the biggest cryptocurrencies. Nauticus will focus on high liquidity with low transaction fees. An impressive 7 fiat currencies pairing will be available on launch with a further 16 planned in total and then 300 cryptocurrencies. At the heart of their business is a clear goal to create a simplified interface designed with the average consumer in mind. Nauticus hopes to help simplify the trading process for new users by, “Making Bitcoin as easy as ordering a pizza”.
The crypto and fiat exchange is targeted to launch in mid-2018 with one of their pilot features being a mobile app that utilises facial recognition and biometric data to enhance security. The app aims to make the payment processes easier for all users across the globe by simplifying sending money to friends or services through their easy, consumer friendly wallet.
In 2019 Nauticus turns its attention to creating an environmentally friendly mining center, focusing on energy efficient equipment, renewable energy and promoting sustainable projects. The profits from the mine will be used to support subsequent expansion in the following years.
By 2020 Nauticus then plans to move into the eCommerce sector, simplifying payments by allowing the buyer to pay in a variety of different fiat and crypto options and very importantly ensuring transaction fees are incredibly low. By 2023 they will have established a Merchant payment platform, integrated with the big data industry, have a global KYC verification system and an ICO Gateway for new projects.
Value of project / Use case
The pioneering feature of the project when it is launched this summer will be the 6 Fiat currencies pairs active on the platform. Nauticus will be the first in the world to offer such a service. By providing these pairs and simplifying the usability process, Nauticus targets to ease the adoption for the average user. The hope is that by providing an easy to use entry into the digital payment world they will be able to encourage adoption and become a leader in growing the ecosystem of modern payment methods. By summer 2019 the goal is to offer over 300 cryptocurrencies and an incredible 16 fiat currency options. This will thrust Nauticus into the limelight and highlights one of their clear unique selling points.
The mobile app is one of the core features of Nauticus, they have their target firmly set on creating a global society, supporting transactions no matter where you are in the world and what currency you hold. The target is to allow the user travel anywhere and be able to pay with whatever currency they have stored in the exchange. The software behind the mobile app will then convert and transact immediately into the required payment method. The target of this is to help encourage the world to unite into one big digital eco-system and remove boundaries prevalent in our current system. Nauticus aims to create a one stop shop for global payments that is quick, reliable and extremely versatile no matter where you are in the world.
Unlike many other ICO projects in the current space the Nauticus token has a clear value and use case. Like Binance coins or Kucoin tokens, the Nauticus coin has a genuine use on their exchange platform. ICO investers will almost immediately be able to use their Nauticus coins once the cryptocurrency / fiat exchange is launched. Users will be encouraged to hold the tokens as a 50% discount is provided on trading fees if the Nauticus coin is held in a user’s wallet.
Hype
At the time of writing the Nauticus ICO was in the final stage of its main sale. It has a very impressive 362,100 registered users, it has well surpassed its soft cap and is looking like it will hit the 2nd 16M milestone soon.
The Nauticus team are active on social media promoting their project. Their telegram group has an above average user base exceeding 10,000, with a twitter following of a similar size. #Nauticus is currently being tweeted between 400–500 times a day and there is a general excitement surrounding the project within circles that are aware of its existence.
Promotion from social media influencers and hype from YouTube reviewers has been relatively small compared with other popular ICOs active at the moment, but this shouldn’t detract from its pull in the community. Review sites such as WiserICO, ICOmarks and ICObench have reviewed the project very favourably and the project has excelled in a tough climate for ICOs (March-April 2018).
Team
The company was established by CEO Bryan Ng and COO Jonathan Chang. Whilst young, they have both setup previous successful businesses and have had experience with past blockchain projects. Further down the list, whilst the team is not all star, the team is large, experienced in the right fields and are very capable of delivering.
Whilst the team has very good advisors, it is a shame to see these positioned ahead of the actual team on their site. Whilst advisors are somewhat important, it’s slightly disheartening seeing these pushed ahead of the actual team who will be driving the business forward.
From watching an interview on Youtube, you can see the passion both founders have for the project. There is a clear air of transparency, both explain the project well and both seem eager and confident to establish their selves within the blockchian world. Respectably the Nauticus founders are also very ethically minded, pledging to use profits to bring improve living standards for those in developing countries, to protect the environment and to give away a possible 41% of the coins to charity.
Token Metrics
It is good to see that the project has clearly put some thought into their token metrics to benefit those investing at ICO stage. Private sales have a six month lock in feature to prevent bonus dumps and 90% of all tokens are in the hands of the general public.
It is important for investors to be aware that the token sale has rewarded early investors in the form of bonuses and has been operating with a referral program. A 30% bonus existed for presale investors and an extra 5% for large investors. Giveaways in the form of a 100 free tokens were awarded for signing up, as well as 200 tokens for each referral. However, what is important to recognise is that any free tokens awarded from promotions will be untradeable for two years — a great way to protect early investors.
Finally, although the project looks likely to sell out over the coming weeks, it is important to recognise that any unsold tokens will be burned at the end of the ICO.
Summary
Nauticus is a project that has high a real desire to make progress evolving our global digital ecosystem. It has a bold 5 year plan that if they succeed with, will push Nauticus forward as one of the pioneers of innovation in the blockchain space.
Its unique features give Nauticus the ability to separate itself from other platforms, however, it will clearly face a lot of competition from the well-established cryptocurrency exchanges dominating the market. In addition to this it will also come up against the likes of Ethos and Bread as user friendly universal mobile wallets / fiat gateways. As well as fighting competition against payment focused projects such as Crypterium, Metal, BitPay, Monaco and TenX to name but a few.
With great ambition also comes risk. Nauticus will not only have to be determined to achieve all 6 goals outlined in their roadmap, it may also come up against challenges navigating around government loopholes when implementing certain areas of the project.
Despite these issues Nauticus is a relatively low risk investment with the potential to grow over the next few years if adoption is achieved. If we compare the Nauticus coin to similar projects such as Binance, the potential is obvious. With the correct nurturing of their Australian based team and successful marketing / implementation, there is real opportunity for Nauticus to thrive as a pioneer in secure crypto banking, payments and eCommerce as both a short and long term investment.

Users will be encouraged to hold the tokens as a 50% discount is provided on trading fees if the Nauticus coin is held in a user’s wallet.
a sneak preview of the Nauticus desktop application Hype
Nauticus token sales progress as of 29/04/2018 Team
The Nauticus mobile application Summary
