WARNING!Please guys be extremely careful!

WARNING!Please guys be extremely careful!
I hope my story will help some of you to never repeat my mistake.
I just got scammed the way I never even thought is possible ( some of you might heard about this but I never heard until today).
Decided to cash some money out thru Coinbase, logged-in and copied BTC wallet address thru built-in Copy function as it shows on the screenshot below.
Logged in Binance to sent the BTC to Coinbase and just pasted the address from the buffer without second thought. Pushed the transaction. 1hour later I realized that its different address and only first 4 symbols are same. Somehow my copy-paste buffer changed the address from right one to wrong one.
Money lost. No way to recover it. Please dont repeat my mistake do not blindly trust to copy-paste buffer , your computer could be infected with malware that swaps addresses and it will be too late when you realize that.
P.S:
Since Coinbase not showing whole address and first 4 symbols were the same it was very easy to overlook
P.P.S:
heres the "wrong address" https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/36cZUcWME52EF33Af8a6JCdm233jgmViXd you can verify with a screenshot that first 4 symbols are same and last 4 hidden.

Edit:
Please , I`m not trying to say that this is someone else`s fault ( I totally understand that its my fault and take ownership of it) .I shared this experience for educational purposes, so newcomers or someone who never heard of such malware would not repeat same mistake. I`m not getting anything from it, no need to tell me something that I already know. It is my fault I agree and not blaming anything/anyone besides of myself.

Crypto Twitter has been hacked. Stay safe!

Several accounts including @Bitcoin, @cz_binance, @Gemini and @elonmusk have been hacked.
hxxp://cryptoforhealth.com is a scam, but it has been blocked already.
A good moment to change some passwords, disable third-party applications on twitter (More -> Settings and Privacy -> Apps and sessions -> Revoke access), scan your computer for malware, spyware, rootkits, check your web server security

Weekly Crypto News — July, 03

What important crypto events happened last week?
Regulation, Government, Mass Adoption
📌 The U.S. court classified Coinbase as a traditional bank after the exchange revealed its customer information at the request of the FBI. This decision was made when considering the appeal of Richard Gratkowski, sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison. Earlier, the FBI found out that between June 2016 and May 2017, Richard Gratkovsky used Bitcoins to purchase prohibited pornographic materials involving minors. Having detected the wallets used by him, the agency turned to Coinbase with a request to disclose information about this client. The exchange complied with this requirement without a court order.
📌 Binance Exchange has confirmed the launch of a cryptocurrency debit card in partnership with Swipe. Information about this appeared on the official website of the company but later disappeared. One of the features of the card will be the ability to exchange cryptocurrencies for fiat money in real-time. Users will be able to transfer money to the card directly from the Binance trading account. Payments will be instant, funds can be spent immediately after crediting. In addition, cardholders will be able to withdraw cash from ATMs.
📌 The District of Columbia Bar has allowed lawyers in Washington D.C. to accept payments in Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. Representatives of the organization noted that cryptocurrencies are rapidly gaining popularity as a means of payment and lawyers cannot stand aside from these changes. Acceptance of payment in crypto is permissible if the lawyer is able to ensure the safe storage of assets. To do this, he must have basic knowledge in the field of blockchain.
Projects, Collaborations, Startups
📌 BlockFi, a company operating in the cryptocurrency lending market, reported a doubling of monthly revenue in the second quarter. The driver was halving and launching a mobile application. “By now, monthly income has quadrupled since the end of last year and doubled if we start from the end of March,” said Zac Prince, co-founder, and CEO of the startup.
📌 CoinGecko, an analytical service, has announced a partnership with cybersecurity company Hacken. As part of the collaboration, CoinGecko integrated into the so-called Trust Score cryptocurrency exchange security assessment metrics based on the platform data from Hacken. Among others, Hacken considers platform infrastructure security, including server security, two-factor user authentication, spam and phishing protection, and other criteria.
📌 According to Messari, the market capitalization of dollar-tied stablecoin Tether (USDT) reached $10.3 billion. The growth since the beginning of the year, when the figure was $4.76 billion, exceeded 116%. Other stablecoins are significantly inferior to USDT in terms of market supply.
📌 Binance cryptocurrency exchange has completed a major update of the trading engine, increasing the processing speed of operations by 10 times, company CEO Changpeng Zhao said. According to him, the update was the largest in the history of Binance. It took two years to develop it. Zhao noted that in doing so, the exchange is preparing the “next wave” of cryptocurrency market growth.
Blockchain
📌 According to Messari, Bitcoin and Ethereum account for more than 99% of the commissions received by all miners. Over the past 24 hours, the total amount of commissions in the Bitcoin network has amounted to $407,571. Ethereum has a significantly higher rate — $814,082.
📌 On June 30, at block # 637 056 in the Bitcoin network, the planned recalculation of mining complexity took place. The indicator has undergone the most insignificant change since March 22, 2010, having decreased by 0.0033% from 15.7847 T to 15.7842 T. Thus, the complexity of mining Bitcoin almost did not change for the first time in 10 years.
📌 A transaction of 101 857 BTC (~$ 933 million at the time of sending) was recorded in the Bitcoin network between anonymous addresses. Transaction passed between anonymous addresses. The commission was only 48 cents. An anonymous whale used the SegWit protocol, which reduced costs by 41%.
📌 One of the Bitcoin users included the message “Hello, Noah! Welcome to the world, little one” in one of the transactions, thus recording the birth of their first child. The unchanging and censorship-resistant nature of Bitcoin will ensure that this message remains forever on the blockchain while it continues to function. The current case demonstrates a widely discussed scenario for using the first cryptocurrency as a decentralized database.
Hacking, Cyber Crimes
📌 Russian Sergei Medvedev admitted involvement in the cybercriminal organization Infraud, which traded stolen personal data, compromised credit cards, malware, and other illegal things. “Over the course of its seven-year history, Infraud caused an estimated loss of about $2.2 billion and more than $568 million in actual losses to a wide range of financial institutions, sellers and individuals,” the US Department of Justice declared.
📌 The criminals received a $1.14 million ransom after a successful attack on the University of California. The software installed by hackers encrypted the data on the university’s servers at the School of Medicine, making the information temporarily unavailable. To fix the problem, the institution had to pay 116.4 BTC.
📌 An unknown hacker managed to withdraw $500,000 in altcoins WETH, WBTC, SNX, and LINK from the pool of the Balancer Labs DeFi project using a smart contract vulnerability that allowed an attacker to create a shortage of funds in the pools.

Brave Browser: TRULY FASTER - The browser that rethinks the web
The Brave browser is very new to the browser scene but they are seriously making a huge thing in the market. [discussion] Can someone help me contact owner of btc address 12HaVrpXxLr2UnkMf6X9bY11cuNrZUdUnV?

I recently joined coinbase and signed up to binance. I was investing into some bitcoins which was a good amount in my opinion and everything was going well until I tried to deposit my bitcoins into binance and encountered some problems.
From reading other ppl's experience I learned that the glitch I had encountered was a deposit address glitch where my deposit address was changed and now on Blockchain it says that I sent my BTC to that address that is not mine. I learned a lesson the hard way and binance can't help me at all yet I was sure I copied the address correctly. This makes me not want to trust binance again! I lost £200 which is not a lot to most but bothers me greatly. For those of you reading I apologise for my ranting but I wanted to know if there was a way for a noob like me to contact the address owner. Please lend me your advice! Has anyone experienced a similar incident?

Hacker Attacks On Crypto Exchanges Are Going Up

Hacker Attacks On Crypto Exchanges Are Going Up

2019 Records The Highest Number Of Attacks, But 2018 Was The Year With The Most Significant Amount Of Stolen Crypto
As the crypto sector seeks further ways for eliminating hacker attacks, last year, Chainalysis recorded 11 attacks on exchanges and custodial services. Despite the number of attacks, 2019 isn’t as fruitful for hackers, as the total amount reached “just” $238 million. 2018, for instance, records an all-time high of crypto heists as $875,5 million worth of cryptocurrencies were stolen in only six cyber attacks.
The research team at Chainalysis came up with a report showing the number and amount of funds stolen from hacking. The group clarified that phishing attacks or sudden exit scams are not taken into consideration, as they use less-technical attacks like malware and luring victims into providing their wallet addresses and private keys. Furthermore, the Chainalysis team only took into consideration the attacks that lead to illicit activities on exchanges.
The most significant hacking attack in 2019 was on CoinBene, with total worth of $105 million through the theft of 109 different ERC-20 tokens stolen from the exchange. At the beginning, the exchange was refusing about the attack, but researchers found out the total amount of tokens was forcefully taken from Coinbene’s hot wallet.
$49 million worth of Ethereum disappeared from Upbit’s hot wallet. The exchange, however, stated that the stolen funds were not a part of their users` belongings, so user assets were kept securely.
Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange to date, also suffered from a hacking attack. Despite Binance’s tight security measures, the hackers gained access to the hot wallet via a combination of phishing attacks and a special withdrawal algorithm to bypass Binance’s security protocol.
Bitpoint lost $32 million worth of various cryptocurrencies, Bithumb got stung with $19 million worth of Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple (XRP) tokens. At the same time, Cryptopia suffered from a $16 million worth of ETH and ERC-20 token hit. The 11 hits also include exchanges like DragonEx, Bitrue, Vindaxm, and LocalBitcoins.

Source: Chainalysis
The Chainalysis team created a break down of occured thefts, based on the average and median amount stolen. It turns out, the number of crypto funds stolen per heist dropped drastically in 2019, when comparing it with 2018, for example. The data suggest exchanges are now increasingly aware of the situation and are trying to mitigate or at least lessen the effect of potential crypto theft.
Most of the stolen funds are going into other exchanges, then exchanged for fiat currencies. However, there are still funds, sitting in wallets, which gives law enforcement officials a chance to discover the culprits.
And as exchanges are increasing their security measures, hackers also sophisticate their methods for infiltration. Exchange operators now keep small amounts in their hot wallets, while most of the funds are locked in cold wallets. Also, exchanges are relying more on authentication procedures and transaction monitoring. Exchanges in 2019 shared more information on the crypto hack than ever before, which is beneficial for the entire crypto community.
However, hacker groups like the Lazarus project take crypto attacks to a whole new level. Believed to be behind the WannaCry ransomware attacks in 2017, as well as the 2014 Sony Pictures attack, Lazarus now uses more and more sophisticated hacking methods. Most of their hacking is based on social engineering, evolving into one of the most elaborate hacking strategies in the crypto sector. Lazarus also uses mixing pools to cover up their tracks. Mixing pools gather illicit funds and then transfers them back with a “mixed” origin for a 1-3% fee.

Brave browser gives away free cryptocurrency (BAT)

Brave browser gives away free cryptocurrency (BAT)
Brave is a free, open-source web browser that allows you to earn free BAT cryptocurrency. The browser creators: founder of the world-famous JavaScript programming language and co-founder of such browsers as Mozilla and Firefox Brendan Eich.
In addition to excellent results (3 times faster than standard), the browser has a built-in ad-blocking module, what Adblock users should really enjoy. In my opinion, the system implemented in Brave is much better.
Occasionally, founders start an advertising campaigns in which Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) can be obtained for free. Later in this article, you'll learn how to earn them. The estimated cost of the BAT token check at Coinmarketcap.com.
In this guide, you will learn how to:
  1. Join the Reward program;
  2. Create and confirm an account on Uphold;
  3. How to withdraw BAT from Brave;
  4. Convert BAT to BitBay and convert it to your local currency.

Brave browser - my review and opinion

With the Brave browser, you can surf the web even faster. Tests have shown that the browser loads sites on computers twice as fast. Even better results were obtained on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones, where pages loaded 8 times faster.
https://preview.redd.it/5thrma6wpkp31.jpg?width=239&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9203864b860ad181578641b62d5e610d9cf19161
Increased security when surfing the Internet
The Brave web browser creators have taken care of their user's safety. Brave servers not only do not see browsing data and history, but also do not store them. Users can feel safe and easy to visit their favorite sites.
Most of the available security settings can be configured by the user according to his preferences. The browser has a built-in ad blocking system. You can check the number of blocked ads on the dashboard.
https://preview.redd.it/kjz7cyz0qkp31.jpg?width=560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb770f7cb131879d118062a0e2542e75924f5c53
Additionally, the Brave web browser can upgrade to HTTPS. That means you will almost always use an encrypted and secure connection.
Brave Browser, like Chrome and Firefox, has a built-in module to protect against phishing and malware. These modules are enabled by default, but you can turn them off at any time.
The reward for usage
That is interesting that the browser has launched a system that encourages both regular users and website creators.
https://preview.redd.it/lawroaf7qkp31.jpg?width=560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56c731fe44a3978f923e6db72672c0577682d9b3
Brave awards
So far, no one has paid for watching an ad, and you've paid for it without even watching. Advertising on the Internet has become so tedious that most of us have started using AdBlock to get rid of it.
Brave Browser allows you to choose between blocking ads and viewing them. If you choose the second option, you will be rewarded with free Basic Attention Token (BAT) cryptocurrency. Perfect, right?!
https://preview.redd.it/z6qsg6bbqkp31.jpg?width=560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa0664a38e2259ce120679d1e9f727b2edef1d13
Once a month, Brave will send a certain amount of BAT cryptocurrency to your personal wallet. This amount depends on the number of ads you have seen while surfing the Internet. Besides, websites you spent the most time on will also receive BAT tokens from Brave.

Detailed instruction how to get free BAT cryptocurrency

To collect 30 free BAT tokens, you must take part in a Brave organized promotion. Follow the instructions below.
https://preview.redd.it/gp0d14yhqkp31.jpg?width=560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aae8ad1769e5974654d565defe9f8cdc4454f58a
  1. Download Brave
  2. Start the Brave browser and enable "Brave Rewards". You can do this by typing " brave: // rewards / " in a browser window
  3. Click the BAT cryptocurrency icon (triangle). If any tokens are available, a message will be shown, otherwise repeat this action in 30 days.
  4. Click on "Rewards Settings", then click on the "Get" button. The number of tokens is limited, so if you don't see a "Claim" button, it means you don't have any funds available. They will be available soon if you are using Brave.
  5. 20 BAT tokens you received can be donated as a "tip".
  6. Now you have to register as a" publisher " to get your referral link. To do this, select the "Publishers" option. For each recommended user you can get $ 5 in equivalent of BAT currency.
  7. In the URL input field, type: "brave://rewards/" and start watching ads for BAT tokens (option will be available soon).
  8. Browsing the Internet with Brave, you can earn free BAT tokens.

If you already have a verified Uphold account, it's time to link it to your Brave Rewards account. For this:
  1. Sign in to your publisher account with this URL: https://publishers.basicattentiontoken.org

  3. To connect your account with Uphold, click corresponding button.
  4. If everything was fine, you will see a green sign "Connected".
https://preview.redd.it/ibysmap1rkp31.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1a144c51ceffd93173e8dad8ac39bc7fb735371
From now on, your funds in the form of BAT cryptocurrency, Brave browser will send directly to your Uphold wallet. This will happen 08th of every month.
If you have received a verified publisher status, you can transfer BAT cryptocurrency from Uphold wallet to any Bitcoin wallet, such as Exodus, or directly to exchange cryptocurrencies, for example, Binance.
ATTENTION!
The steps in the guide above don't guarantee 100% free BAT (Basic Attention Token) from brave.com. The pool of tokens intended for the campaign is limited in number. When registering on all sites described in the manual, you must provide confidential personal information, you do so at your own risk. I also recommend you to read all the terms of the contract.
Cryptocurrencies and their trading are complex instruments and involve a high risk of rapid money loss. The vast majority of retail investor accounts record losses as a result of cryptocurrency trading. Consider whether you understand how cryptocurrency works, and whether you can afford the high risk of losing money. When making investment decisions, you should be guided by your own opinion.

Weekly news review (May 11-17)

Weekly news review (May 11-17)
Good morning everyone! How's Monday going for you so far?
As usual, let's take a look at last week's news highlights in more detail.
https://preview.redd.it/qvn9g72rgbz21.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=1178ea81e0357dcbb28f4922cfb920eb7d8130da
South Korean electronics giant Samsung is planning to bring cryptocurrency and blockchain features to more phones across its Galaxy range.
Citing a press release from Samsung, Business Korea reported on Tuesday that the firm would make its digital wallet app available even on lower-cost models and will further expand the crypto features to more jurisdictions.
The Samsung Blockchain Wallet is currently only available on Samsung’s recently launched flagship phone range, the Galaxy S10. The S10 additionally comes with blockchain features such as digital signing and decentralized apps (dapps), which the report appears to suggest may also be added across the Galaxy range.

eBay has denied rumors that it is going to start accepting cryptocurrency as a payment method, according to a Bloomberg report on May 14.
Speculation has been mounting since the e-commerce giant took out ads at the Consensus conference in New York City. One of the billboards said:
“Virtual Currency. It’s happening on eBay.”
But Sunayna Tuteja, the company’s head of digital assets, told Bloomberg:
“Currently we’re not. We have what we call paperMoney, which is what our clients can try for trading strategies. It was a simulation. So there was no actual execution.”

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has announced that it is back online after completing a security upgrade prompted by a recent hack.
Kicking off at 03:00 UTC Wednesday, the upgrade meant that all services were suspended during this period, according to a Binance support message. A two-hour extension to the upgrade was announced the next morning as some tasks took “longer than expected.”
Deposits and withdrawals have been offline since the hack, which Binance said saw 7,000 BTC (worth about $41 million at the time) stolen from the exchange’s hot wallet. Exchange customers would not be affected by the losses, Binance said.
Following the breach, CZ said in a blog post that the exchange would make “significant” changes related to its application programming interface (API), two-factor authentication (2FA) and withdrawal validation to reduce the risk of future hacks.
The exchange did not disclose full details regarding these efforts due to security concerns, but did say it’s also improving risk management and know-your-customer procedures to fight phishing, among other measures at the back-end.

Monday, May 13 — Following a solid to break above the $7,400 mark earlier that day, bitcoin (BTC) has broken $8,000, with all top-20 cryptocurrencies trading in the green.
Apart from bitcoin, bitcoin cash (BCH), binance coin (BNB), IOTA (MIOTA), Tezos (XTZ), and Ontology (ONT) have also reported double-digit gains, from 10% to 17%, according to CoinMarketCap.

In a joint effort by several law enforcement agencies from 6 different countries, officials have dismantled a major global organized cybercrime network behind GozNym banking malware. GozNym banking malware is responsible for stealing nearly $100 million from over 41,000 victims across the globe, primarily in the United States and Europe, for years.
GozNym was created by combining two known powerful Trojans—Gozi ISFB malware, a banking Trojan that first appeared in 2012 and Nymaim, a Trojan downloader that can also function as ransomware. The United States has charged ten members of the GozNym criminal network, 5 of which were arrested during several coordinated searches conducted in Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. However, rest of the five defendants reside in Russia and are on the run, including one who developed the GozNym malware and leased it to other cybercriminals by advertising it on underground, Russian-language, online criminal forums.

Beginners Guide To Using Binance (Buying ALTcoins)

Beginners Guide To Using Binance (Buying ALTcoins)

Hello, Today I am going to give you newcomers a walkthrough on how to setup and use Binance.
Lets Get Started...

STEP 1 - Preparing your Computer for Cryptocurrency Transactions

This is a step most people do not think about. I have been reading more and more about MalWare,Spyware and keyloggers that are specifically targeting Cryptocurrency transactions. If your computer is infected, you could easily lose your cryptos before you even get started. Do some virus scans, malware scans and make sure your antivirus is up to date. I can not stress this enough, make sure your computer is secure before you begin trading cryptos.

STEP 2 - Registration

Once you have a secure PC for setting up your account, you will want to go to https://binance.com Here is a SCREENSHOT of what you will see when you first go to the Binance Website.
Registering is simple. Enter the Email and Password you would like to use and hit register. You will receive an email with a verification link, once you verify your email, your account will be registered.

STEP 3 - 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication)

When you first login you should be greeted by this SCREEN. Depending on how secure you want your account to be, I highly suggest you enable Two-Factor Authentication. What 2FA does is creates a random 6 digit number that changes every 30 seconds. You will also need this code on top of your email and password to login. So if someone does somehow manage to steal your password, you will still be safe as long as they do not have your 2FA device. The only option available is by Google Authenticator which is available for both Android and iOS Smartphones.
Once your ready to begin click the Google Auth Button and it will bring up this SCREEN

STEP 4 - Making a deposit

STEP 5 - Trading

Before you buy your first coins you will want to grab yourself a few Binance Coins or BNB to pay for trading fees. In order to take advantage of the 0.05% trading fees you will need have some BNB. If your only doing small trades, I suggest just buying 1 or 2 BNB to get a feel of how much each trade costs. One of the main reasons to do this is because binance does not allow you to trade in small decimals, so if it ends up taking your fees from the coins your trying to buy, you will be left with untradeable dust. Say you buy 110 XRP and do not have any BNB to pay for the fees. Your fees will now be 1% of the total amount or 1.1 XRP. So you will have 108.9 XRP and will be unable to trade the 0.9 XRP back to Bitcoin or Ethereum. This 0.9 XRP is considered "Dust". Binance is apparently working on a solution to this. Buying BNB is easy. From the Exchange Screen find the BNB/BTC pair (if you deposited Bitcoin) and place a market order to buy some BNB. The method will be the exact same as shown below.
Once you have some Bitcoin or Ethereum loaded into your account your now ready to trade it for other coins. I'm assuming at this point you have done your research and know the coins you want to get into. In this example we are going to use a popular cryptocurrency called XRP or Ripple. Hit the "Exchange" Button on the top left of your screen and go to basic. It will bring up a screen with charts and a bunch of green and red numbers. HERES AN EXAMPLE
There are two types of orders you can make:
If you want to sell your ALTcoins back to Bitcoin or Ethereum then place a market sell order or limit order at the price you want to convert them back.

STEP 6 - Securing your new coins

Depending on if your strategy is too buy and hold, Once you buy your coins you will want to secure them by sending them to the individual wallet made for the coin you bought. In our case we just bought Ripple XRP. So you go back to your "Deposits and Withdrawals" under the "Funds" tab in binance and type in the search bar the coin you want to send out.
Make sure you have the right coin and hit the "Withdrawal" button. You will be brought to a screen where it wants you to enter your wallet address. Here is an example from the "Toast" website Your address would be the string of random letter and numbers above the barcode. Copy and Paste this into the address bad where I labeled "Your Address Here" USE THIS SCREENSHOT AS A REFERENCE Any withdrawal transaction will also be recorded under "History" under the "Funds" tab. Your coins should now show up in your toast wallet.
Be sure when you are researching a coin to buy to also do some research on what wallets are available and how secure they are. Although there are multi-currency wallets, typically you will have 1 wallet for each different coin.

Elastos (TICKER: ELA) Assessment

Author's Note:
Elastos was discussed in this group twice, albeit 7 and 9 months ago, respectively. To do the project justice my intention is to give existing and new CryptoMoonShots group followers an update as the overall market has changed considerably and to factor in project-specific developments following the two mentions of Elastos here.

Definitions:
Content Creators and/or Developers: Individuals and enterprises that generate, design, and create digital assets.
Digital Capital: An individuals videos, photos, written text, written or spoken ideas, music, time, and attention
Big Tech: Companies like Alphabet, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter to name a few.

Project Introduction:
The design philosophy of Elastos originated from Rong Chen, a former senior software engineer at Microsoft. Building on his experience at Microsoft, Chen wanted to create a platform in which applications and services are not allowed to access the Internet directly. Without access to the network, malware would not be able to steal user data or attack other services on the Internet. Chen’s vision was subsequently developed into an open-source, lightweight operating system for virtual machines (github.com/Elastos). In 2017, blockchain technology was integrated into Chen’s vision, enabling development of the Elastos Smart Web.

The project is focused on developing a decentralized internet platform where digital assets are owned, distributed, and monetized by Content Creators and/or Developers that own it. To understand this, it is imperative to understand the current internet model (Internet 2.0). Big tech currently owns the internet and everything in it: your videos, your photos, your written text, your ideas, your music, your time, your attention - and the most important in this context - the means of distribution - let's call this Digital Capital. In the current model, Content Creators and/or Developers are forced to distribute their capital through channels owned by Big Tech, which rob creators of their rights and profits.

Elastos is building the boundlessly scalable platform where digital capital can be published, distributed, and monetized by creators while allowing creators and developers to retain their rights. This platform will allow for decentralized applications (Dapps) to operate on a peer-to-peer network with no centralized control. Consumers can access these Dapps via their mobile phones without changing their operating system. The old Internet is a Web of information. If you click a URL, you get data. Elastos is creating a Web of apps. When you click a URL, you get code. The Elastos Web will be a special economic zone where Elastos tokens function as the base currency.

The project is open-source software whose development process has been sponsored by industry giants such as the Tsinghua Science Park, the TD-SCDMA Industrial Alliance and the Foxconn Group for more than 200 million RMB. The project has published more than ten million lines of source code, including four million lines of original source code. The Elastos blockchain utilizes merged mining with Bitcoin, the process by which consensus is reached on both chains simultaneously. In this case, the Bitcoin blockchain works as the parent blockchain to Elastos, with the Elastos chain as its auxiliary blockchain. The mining pools will deploy merged mining code and miners will submit proof of work to both blockchains at the same time. Energy consumption does not increase with merged mining, and will be equal to the energy consumed for mining either alone. Through this mechanism, the Elastos blockchain has an extremely strong guarantee of computing power and will then be able to provide blockchain innovations at a global scale. It makes full use of existing Bitcoin computing resources in addition to being environmentally friendly.

Live Products

Elastos SPV Wallet
Elastos provides an SPV Wallet SDK equipped with a series of wallet-related interfaces to enable users to develop unique wallets that connect to the Elastos blockchain. Sample applications are available now.
Elastos Blockchain Merged Mining
Elastos’ main public blockchain is merged mined with bitcoin, which enables pre-existing bitcoin miners to update their clients to simultaneously mine Elastos without expending excess energy. The merged mining is currently open only to the BTC.com mining pool.
Elastos DID Sidechain Service
Elastos provides a Decentralized ID (DID) Sidechain Service to be used in applications. On the Elastos ecosystem, every user, every device and every app has its own DID and can store any value that is associated with that ID on this sidechain. The DID service paves the way for a more secure and trustable internet, as this allows for seamless interoperability between DApps and IDs are assigned to users from the blockchain rather than having them assigned by a company.
Elastos TV Box
Although Elastos does not sell the TV Box directly, the Elastos Carrier is embedded inside. The Elastos TV Box is presently used for simple features such as remote control in a decentralized peer to peer fashion. In the future, these TV Boxes and many other IoT devices that have Elastos Carrier installed will be capable of running as IPFS nodes for supporting the distributed file storage network for the Elastos ecosystem.
Elastos Dittobox
Any individual can establish a unique dittobox server on a personal computer that integrates ownCloud server and Elastos Carrier. The dittobox server can be installed onto a computer behind the router, and all files stored on the server are accessible from anywhere in the world via the Elastos Carrier network.

Beta Products
Elastos Blockchain PoW + DPoS
Elastos main blockchain will employ a hybrid consensus of PoW + DPoS where the PoW is merged mined with bitcoin and both are used to package blocks while the DPoS nodes are used for signing. This creates a finality in the blocks which will prevent the chain from forking.
Elastos Token Sidechain Service
Elastos DApps utilize this service to generate application-specific native tokens within the Elastos ecosystem. As such, each application can create its own token on demand, and without friction.
Elastos Smart Contract Sidechain Service
Elastos provides a unique sidechain service that is designated to running and executing smart contracts. These smart contracts are compatible with ERC20 and ERC721 tokens, which enables Ethereum DApps to run smoothly within the Elastos ecosystem.
Elastos Hive
Elastos will provide a distributed storage system that apps can utilize to store files, messages in a p2p chat, videos, music, and more.
Elastos Elapay
Elapay is a payment tool that enables payment with ELA. Two types of payments will be supported. The first is “Pay On Order,” which encompasses standard commercial purchases, and will require merchants to integrate Elapay service into their web apps in order to offer users this payment option alongside the likes of credit card and cash payments. The second is “Point to Point Pay,” which involves individuals exchanging funds between themselves. “Point to Point Pay” uses an html5 page that can be shared on social media outlets such as Facebook or Wechat to send or receive ELA. Elapay can be expended for a variety of purposes – from purchasing a virtual asset in an online video game to standard online shopping expenditures. It simply represents another method of paying for goods and services at checkout.

Alpha Products
Elastos Trinity
A cross-platform browser application that runs on Android and will be available for iOS in the future. This is a form of the Elastos virtual machine and a demo of Elastos Runtime where decentralized applications written for Elastos run in a secure sandboxed environment. These are Ionic framework applications. Also, the SPV wallet functionality and the payment functions will be embedded inside the browser so that other DApps that run on Trinity can easily integrate with the available features.
Elastos Carrier SDK
Elastos Carrier provides SDK for Android (Java), iOS (Swift/Objective C), and nodeJS that can be utilized to connect to the decentralized peer to peer network that takes over all of the network traffic on the Elastos ecosystem, such as messaging, file transfer, and more.

On January 16, 2019 the Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing (IGRS) board issued Elastos a formal membership certificate, thus making official its entrance into the IGRS Industry Association. In conjunction with Association members, Elastos will explore the opportunities and potential synergies presented by blockchain and IoT, in the joint hopes of creating a robust IoT industry ecosystem.

Recently an ecosystem partner meetup revealed 900k TV Boxes sold and 180k registered DIDs via our partner app Viewchain. The Elephant Wallet also hit the Apple App Store and Google Play.

In June, 2018 Elastos partnered with ioeX, an internet of things platform that was much anticipated. The ioeX project is a behemoth on its own and is built on the Elastos platform.

**There are countless other exciting milestones that were achieved in 2018 and planned for 2019. Refer to https://news.elastos.org/.*\*

Market Sizing, Factors, and ELA's Potential
In the current market, Elastos' market cap of fluctuates between $31 million and $35 million with ~14,574,261 ELA coins in circulation ($2.1 to $2.3 per ELA) and total coin supply of 34,104,561.

ELA is currently listed on LBANK, CoinEgg, Huobi, HBUS, Kucoin, BCEX, and BIT-Z, the majority of which are low volume exchanges.

Binance Exchange controversy: Although various sources say different things, the evidence points to one plausible story: The Elastos foundation refused to pay Binance's listing fee and backed out of the listing the coin. Binance followed suit by tarnishing the project reputation using various media.

Based on the projects scope, the team's background and leadership, the project's backers, affiliations, and partnerships, and projects with similar mandates the project has the potential to be worth close to $500 million (15x) in the short term (less than 12 months) and several billion over the longer term (1 to 2 years).

The largest barrier to achieving it's objectives is adoption by developers. The chicken or the egg dilemma is that some argue listing ELA on major exchanges will incentivize developers to build on the platform because the coins value will appreciate others ague that the underlying technology must far outperform the incumbent to incentivize migration and hence drive the coins value. It's probably a combination of the two.

I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this assessment.

Thanks!

Rally call: help victims of electrum phishing scam recovery their funds

Background: electrum wallets version 3.3.3 and before have a severe security vulnerability whereby a pop up within the program itself presented a pop up telling the user to download a security update. This updates the user to a fake 4.0.0 version which is then used to send the users funds to the scammers address.
My retired dad fell victim to this and lost over 1btc recently.
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/44aca970cf272d063df76ef8360efd1d97ecc348cf19de365abc37da5acfdb46
Proposed action: it appears that the professionals at malware bytes have done some thorough research into the attacks and the part I would like to pick up on (to cut a long story short) is that the attackers appear to be using a limited set of bitcoin addresses and redirecting the stolen funds to binance and bitfinex.
https://blog.malwarebytes.com/cybercrime/2019/04/electrum-bitcoin-wallets-under-siege/
When cryptopia was hacked I read in the news that binance was able to track and freeze the funds. I have tried to reach out to binance but was only able to reach low level support staff that didn't seem to understand the problem.
Please can you join me in trying to get some recognition by the big exchanges, binance, coinbase, bitfinex, etc... So that the funds can be hopefully confiscated from the criminals or at least prevent them from ever being sold on?
Also the electrum team have an opportunity to do something in the way of putting right the mistake they made by also reaching out to the exchanges and giving the idea some extra traction.
So please help me spread awareness as I firmly believe there is something that can be done if the community and big players in the space band together and take action, and let me know if there are any other actions you can suggest.

Homeland Security Awarded Funds To Austrian Company Creating Compatibility For Blockchain Efforts The Department of Homeland Security awarded a $143,000 other transaction solicitation Sept. 27 to an Austrian company to create compatibility for the agency’s different data formats and blockchain efforts throughout the department. The money was awarded by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate (DHS S&T) to Danube Tech GmbH to develop blockchain security technology as the department seeks to combat forgery and counterfeiting. According to the news release, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services all have responsibilities for data that can be secured using blockchain. These agencies are responsible for processes like identity verification, immigration status, employment eligibility and supply chain security. Using blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT), the agencies could issue credentials digitally, which would “enhance security, ensure interoperability, and prevent forgery and counterfeiting,” the release said.
Libra Association Continues Push For European Acceptance Libra Association meant to manage and handle the debut of Facebook’s proposed cryptocurrency Libra has been dealing with some setbacks involving its acceptance, especially from Germany and France, who say they won’t allow the currency to move forward. Reuters is reporting that despite the opposition, the association is still talking to European Union regulators in an attempt to release the currency by 2020. Perez, who worked in a senior-level position at PayPal before joining Libra, is working diligently to overcome the regulatory and oppositional obstacles facing the currency. Depending on how much progress he makes, the cryptocurrency could launch as early as June of 2020. He also said that a delay of a quarter or two wouldn’t be a big problem.
Stablecoin Regulations Would Need To Eliminate Risks Regarding Liquidity Of Underlying Assets, Claims IMF As Central Banks across the world start looking into cryptocurrencies and DLT to see how feasible a fiat-backed digital currency would be, the IMF (International Monetary Fund) has now entered the conversation as well, publishing a blog post exploring the advantages of a privately issued stablecoin, one which is backed by central bank reserves. The biggest problem governments are likely to face with such a plan is their lack of expertise with regards to intuitively designed and efficient platforms. And while Central Banks are not likely to approve a fiat-backed digital currency, an offering like USDC or Facebook’s Libra, could simply be more efficient. The IMF says that regulations will need to eliminate risks regarding liquidity of the underlying assets and that they should be protected from other creditors, if the stablecoin provider goes bankrupt.

Increasingly Sophisticated Crypto Attacks Require Increasingly Sophisticated Defenses

Increasingly Sophisticated Crypto Attacks Require Increasingly Sophisticated Defenses

https://preview.redd.it/5tef4jw4dyo31.png?width=679&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa9ebddb44e9097538a3ae81a8ed577b441ad690
As the value and visibility of cryptocurrencies continue to rise, the industry is gradually being exposed to increasingly sophisticated security issues. While institutional players typically have the resources and expertise to fortify their assets under multiple layers of defense, retail investors must take it upon themselves to learn about different types of attacks and determine how to mitigate these risks. To that end, we’ve compiled some of the most common yet devastating security risks below:
  • Traditional Web Infrastructure Attacks
Digital currency exchanges, like other industries, run end-applications on web services which are oftentimes not built from the ground up with security considerations in mind. As a result, the legacy infrastructure of many popular online service providers is not sufficiently future-proofed against evolving web security risks, which can allow external parties to take remote control of a company’s server or crash the intranet. Compromised systems are susceptible to SQL injections and other similar attacks, which can modify a transaction address and reconfigure critical user authorizations, much like the ComboJack malware.
Even if a digital platform is generally well-constructed, the way it is tethered to the internet can still be exploited. Web hosts which expose network services to the Internet are relentlessly attacked, and multiple studies indicate that a publicly exposed host is typically discovered and attacked within minutes of being placed on the network. From there, malicious actors would be able to directly attack the exposed host and re-appropriate it for their ends.
  • Front-running Risks
Traditionally, front-running occurs when traders use insider knowledge or high-frequency trading algorithms to detect orders from rival traders, then rapidly inject their order in front of that trade, leading the rival to buy at a higher cost and increasing the value of the front-runner’s newly purchased asset. This is an issue in both cryptocurrency trading and stock trading, but while front-running in traditional markets is restricted by a variety of regulations, the cryptocurrency market is far less regulated and therefore more susceptible to market manipulation.
Front-running within the cryptocurrency space is particularly egregious, as there have been multiple cases where attackers use their funds to open a low position for a particular cryptocurrency while using funds stolen from a large exchange account to artificially inflate the currency price, pulling the compromised user up to the high position. As a result, the attacker’s positions are sold first, and the stolen user’s funds are then transferred to out of their account through the secondary market for a quick profit. These attacks were commonplace during the ICO craze due to the overwhelming public interest in the potential windfall ICOs insinuated, with little attention paid to the dangers imposed by such attacks. Furthermore, few cryptocurrency exchanges are willing to proactively announce these attacks due to the reputational damage it could incur.
  • Phishing Attacks
Although they are relatively low-tech, phishing attacks have grown increasingly sophisticated and are notoriously hard to prevent since they exploit social behavior to achieve their goals. BitcoinTalk’s network service provider was compromised by a successful phishing attack in 2015, and even Binance was forced to deal with the aftermath of a widespread phishing scheme last year, during which attackers used stolen funds to artificially pump and dump a variety of altcoins for their own gain.
In these cases, anonymous groups were able to identify key individuals with access credentials to multiple databases or servers, then implement a coordinated, high-precision phishing attack to acquire those credentials. As a result, the damage resulting from phishing attacks oftentimes extends beyond the initial victim, reverberating negatively throughout an entire system.
  • Collision Attacks
As more people create online crypto-related accounts and transact digital assets, the volume of inadvertent user information disclosures skyrocketed. This is mainly because most people are accustomed to using a fixed set of account passwords, which provides attackers with an opening. Sophisticated attackers can simply parse through entire libraries of leaked data, obtain potentially relevant identification credentials or partial digital signature information which they can then use to access and empty a user’s account.
Even without a full user password, more tech-savvy attackers are also able to exploit hash function collisions to bypass protocols such as MD5 and SHA-1, which are widely used to build authentication and integrity mechanisms in cryptographic protocols.
  • Temporary Network Hijacking
Temporary network hijacking utilizes military-grade tactics to replace the target network of close contact with the target network to achieve further attacks. Attacks of this nature typically involve a Trojan malware component designed to spread internally within an infected system, moving laterally from an internet-connected remote monitoring server to other devices and systems that weren’t meant to be exposed.
To date, network hijacking malware has been found in everything from government servers in North America to an operational technology network controlling water utilities across Europe. While within the context of crypto, these attacks have only involved relatively benign crypto-mining malware, coupled with more disruptive cyberterrorism tactics which are capable of shutting down large-scale national targets. The effects of a temporary network hijacking could severely compromise the entire internet architecture upon which the bourgeoning crypto ecosystem relies on.
As crypto assets take up an increasingly large portion of many investors’ portfolio, there is also an increasing need to understand the underlying principles of the blockchain and appreciate the importance of private keys. Every crypto investor needs to take digital asset protection very seriously, and at Cobo, our central motivation is to support secure and streamlined blockchain development and make it easier to own and utilize the crypto tokens of your choice. To this end, Cobo Wallet’s Hardware Security Module technology ensures that the vast majority of our user assets are stored in a fully offline, globally distributed system, and are further protected by multiple software layer protocols and a multi-signature mechanism which prevents funds from getting lost due to a single point of failure.
Cybercrime will continue to evolve in tandem with the cryptocurrency sector and industry digitization, and many online exchanges and even hardware custodial solutions are not equipped to repel the full spectrum of approaches and tools malicious actors can implement. As you take steps to safeguard your digital assets, it is imperative that you thoroughly research your crypto custodianship options, avoid making purchases from third-party distributors, and ensure that your wallet’s security mechanisms are pressure-tested against the worst possible scenarios.
